FAQ

  • What is virtual psychotherapy?

Virtual psychotherapy (also called online therapy) allows you to meet with a registered therapist through secure video sessions from the comfort of your own home. You’ll receive the same evidence-based care as in person, without the need to travel.

  • Do you only see clients in Ontario?

Yes. Our therapists are licensed to provide psychotherapy to clients across Ontario. If you live elsewhere in Canada, we recommend finding a therapist registered in your province or territory.

  • How do I book a session?

Booking is simple. You can book online or contact us directly at ashley@colourspsychotherapy.ca. Once your appointment is confirmed, you’ll receive a secure link to join your session at your scheduled time.

  • How much does therapy cost?

Our individual psychotherapy sessions start at $165 for 50 minutes (see individual therapist profiles for therapist-specific rates). This rate is consistent with therapy fees across Ontario and reflects the specialized, evidence-based care we provide. Many extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy — we encourage you to check your insurance for coverage.

  • Is therapy covered by insurance?

Yes! Many extended health benefit plans in Ontario cover psychotherapy. We encourage you to check your plan details or contact your insurance provider to confirm coverage. We provide receipts that you can submit for reimbursement. Be sure to note that you’re working with a Registered Psychotherapist.

  • What types of therapy do you offer?

We use evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs. This includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), along with other effective methods that research has shown to help with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and more.

  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can help if you’re struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling “stuck.” If you’re unsure, consider booking an initial session to explore whether it’s the right fit.

  • What happens in the first session?

Your first session is focused on getting to know you. We’ll explore your concerns, talk about your goals, and answer any questions you may have. Together, we’ll create a plan for moving forward.

  • How long are sessions and how often should I come?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes. The frequency depends on your needs — some people start with weekly sessions, while others meet less often. Your therapist will work with you to decide what’s best.

  • Is online therapy private and secure?

Yes. We use encrypted platforms that meet Canadian privacy standards. Just like in-person sessions, everything you share is confidential.

  • What if I’m not tech-savvy?

Don’t worry — joining your session is simple. You’ll receive a secure link before each appointment. Just click to join. If you need extra support, we’ll walk you through the steps.
